A global 3PL provider needed to prepare a 673,270 sq ft warehouse in Rugby for a major global customer in the online retail sector. Security was a substantial part of the fit-out, with hundreds of cameras, controlled staff and driver access, intruder protection and supporting network equipment.
The warehouse security systems had to meet the operator’s needs, the end customer’s specification and TAPA Level B requirements. The mobilisation programme left little time to survey a building of this size and develop the design.
There was also an existing installation to assess. We needed to establish which equipment could be retained, where upgrades were required and how it would all work within the new layout.
We moved quickly from site survey to a fully designed specification and detailed drawings. The complete package went to the client for vetting before we started work on site.
Our in-house team worked through camera coverage, access arrangements, equipment selection and the connections between systems. The drawings and specification gave the client the detail needed to check the proposal against its own requirements and those of its customer.
This is where The Anchor Way proved its value. Design questions could be addressed before installation, and the site team had an agreed scope to work from. Procurement, installation and commissioning could then be planned around the wider fit-out.
The proposed CCTV package comprised approximately 360 cameras, including new AI-enabled warehouse CCTV cameras and selected existing units.
Detailed layouts covered the warehouse, communal areas, yard and entrances. The specification included a video management platform with capacity for expansion and a minimum 30-day recording requirement.
Warehouse access control upgrades and additional controlled entry points were specified alongside external full-height turnstiles, an accessible gate and internal turnstiles.
Driver enclosures provided a separate area for exchanging paperwork while restricting access to the warehouse.
We assessed the existing equipment and identified the testing, repairs and replacements needed. The scope included intruder alarm upgrades, security network switches, fibre interconnections and configuration.
We also coordinated cabling, power and enabling works with the contractors responsible for those packages. The design set out how the integrated security systems would connect and who was responsible for each interface.
CONSULT
Survey the site and agree the operational brief, customer specification and TAPA requirements.
DESIGN
Produce the full specification and detailed drawings for client vetting before installation.
BUILD
Supply, install and integrate the agreed package, coordinating with the other trades.
COMMISSION
Test and configure the systems, with documentation, training and handover planned into the programme.
SUPPORT
Provide continuity through a team that understands the installation and the operation.
For the client, this meant one specialist partner taking responsibility for the security package, from the first survey through to commissioning. The design was developed by the team responsible for delivering it.
Rugby was our second major project with the client. We already understood its security expectations and could build on that experience as the new site took shape.
The CCTV platform also allows for future VIDEOAUDIT applications. Subject to further scoping and testing, these could include PPE-colour zone alerts, consignment evidence and vehicle damage investigations.
